Barcelona : The Eurogames 2008
The famous city of Barcelona will host a great event which is the Eurogames, a sort of "Olympic Games" for the LGBT (gay, lesbian, transsexual and bisexual) community, taking place this year from July 24th-27th. The games are not something new; they began fourteen years ago; the first edition took place in The Hague in 1992.
We can think that this event is reserved for the gay community but actually the games are a celebration for all people, the purpose of the games is to give the message that another world is possible and sports are unfortunately one of the most homophobic spheres in our society, where most of professional sportsmen are scared of talking openly about their sexuality because they could lost their contracts or ruin their careers.
These games are taking place in Spain and this is particularly important, given that in this country as well as other southern European countries, a lot of prejudice are still running towards homosexuality, an attitude that cannot be tolerated in a modern, equal society.
Competitions will be held by the emblematic Palau Sant Jordi; more than 1500 athletes from many European countries have registered and an audience of nearly 30.000 people is expected to attend the various cultural events, parties, and the gay/lesbian film festival that will take place on the same days.

Travel trough Catalonia
Catalonia became, in quasi 10 years, one of the first touristical destinations in Europe: a story among the oldest of Europe, a lively (Barcelona), a backcountry brimming with charm to forget the Costa Brava’s crowded playas, with a mind-blowing choice of artistics treasure, going from delicious roman churches to the biggest name of modern art and architecture: Dalí, Miró, Picasso and Gaudí among others.
Barcelona: The capital
Barcelona is well-known for its playas. After the Olympic Port, they enlarge upon several kilometers, along the side of a large wood-walkside. The nearest are at only 20 min by walk from the Barri Gòtic, the Nova Icaria and Bogatell playas, par Bella and the Nova Mar Bella one. All watched over and well-equipped in showers and toilets. Even if there are a lot of people, one cannot trample on someone else! Trains serves everyday, from the Plaza Catalunya, Southern and Northen playas, particularly the most beautifullest one, Castelldelfels and Sitges.
you can also see monuments like the famous Cathedral or the Palau de la música recognized for its out of the common architecture dedicated to classic and contemporary music
Sitges: The Costa Dorada
This seaside station is notorious for the quality of its sea and the beauty of its playas. Tourists as well as Catalans appreciate the fact that the city knew how to protect the genuineness of its architecture far from noted outrageousness urbanizations in other places of the Gold Coast.
Sitges is also a place of celebrations (visit our Sitges Guide with the board of local affairs). The calendar of festive activities is full of events such as the Carnival, the era’s car rally, the Corpus of the city celebration and the harvest one; not forgetting internationals festivals like the fantastic movie cinematographic festival in October. Don’t leave Sitges without tasting the Xato a local speciality…
Gerona: The Costa Brava
Gerona is beautiful and quite discreet city. It’s said to be the first ity of Spain due to its life quality. The old districts of Onyar right border are magnifics.
Did ou know it?
The Gerona owes its nickname of “thousands-headquarters city” because it was besieged thirteen times from 1295 to 1809. Later it will be given the title of “three times immortal” to have, on three occasions, resisted to Napoleanian troop.
Capital of North, Gerona is a human scaled society, great to visit, full of surprise and prosperities.
Check travel formalities and necessary information before you leave here because being told two times is worth one time!

Organisation of a journey in Barcelona

The Barrio Gótico : The Medieval centre of the city and a true labyrinth. Walk around the little streets around the Cathedral. Discover the most old antique dealers, or the feathers and umbrellas' merchants in the street Banys. It is here, where took place the most determining historical events of Barcelona.

Plaça Sant Jaume: the square in which the town council is the regional government headquarters are based.

The Cathedral Santa Creu, is the maximum exponent of the gothic architecture of Catalonia, and also interesting to visit its tropical garden.

Santa Maria del Pi: One of the best loved areas for artists and bohemians is the confluence of the Plaça del Pi, located just off the Ramblas.
El Raval (Old Barrio Chino) is a district almost entirely metamorphosed. Old den for artists, intellectuals, transvestites and prostitutes. There remains an air of bohemian but modernism has installed. Nowadays the district shelters a very large contemporary Museum and Art Galleries.
Palau Güell, or Guell Palace, was the first of many commissions that Antoni Gaudí received from Eusebi Güell.

CCCB is a multidisciplinary institution which organizes exhibitions in particular on urbanism, music, dance, debates and readings.
Montjuic is a mountain inside the city. You will have access to a splendid sight of Barcelona from all sides. The hillsides are covered with flowers. Exotic trees and giant cactus. The luminous fountains of Gaietà Buïgas create a magic environment. This old district is ideal for a Sunday walk. Monday, 25 June 2007
